Headlines - April 1, 2011

Write On!

Many thanks to visiting author Sam Swope. He provided the whole school with an engaging and informative presentation this morning about being an author and spent the remainder of the day visiting classrooms and providing students with activities and ideas for their writing. It is always inspiring to meet someone who can harness the power of words.

Crazy Hair Day
Hair is an event that is getting quite a reputation and following. It started several years ago, and after an initial spike, the buzz has grown and gelled to become a mane part of our school year. This year we tried to trim the event by cutting school endorsements and layering the day with other events such as a visiting author. However, our efforts to unbraid the day and make it less dis-tressing for our crew of teachers, has done little to color, bleach or curl the students’ enthusiasm. Despite our best efforts, the day proved to be too moose fun and is now a lock for next year. (Sorry, I couldn’t stop once I got started).

Congratulations to music teacher Ann Clements who gave birth to a healthy baby boy last Tuesday. Charles Goddhardt Wall V arrived at 10:51 pm weighing 10lbs, 11 ounces and measuring 23.5 inches. We wish Ann, Chaz, and Charles all the best.

Quaker Parenting Workshops – Parents, please plan to attend and help spread the word about the upcoming parenting workshop: Integrating Quaker Values into Family Life. Facilitated by Harriet Heath of the Quaker Parenting Initiative, it will be held at the school on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, April 20th and 21st. These workshops are free and open to the public with childcare available. If you are able to distribute flyers around town, please let Lori know. lorip@scfriends.org
Friday Folders – Parents make sure to check Friday folders this week. You will find a school car magnet and other important information.

Deadlines – Here is a reminder that the deadlines for the following programs are approaching:
Soccer program - Monday

Fun Fair – I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the fun fair scheduled for May 7th this year. This is one of our main community events and is a Friends School tradition. The Fair generates community interest and support, unites families and is fun for families. Don’t miss out on your chance to participate. We hope every family shares in this community-wide event. Look for emails from Diane and parent organizers in the near future.

Enjoy the Final Four this weekend.
