Headlines - January 6, 2012

Welcome Back

As much as I enjoyed the break (and I did), it was also nice to get back to school. After all, January and February is basketball season. Where I grew up (before soccer), basketball was king. We had a hoop attached to our garage at the end of a large flat driveway and it was the perfect neighborhood court. My older brothers and I spent many afternoons there, in all kinds of weather, shooting, playing, and hanging out with our friends. Our court became quite the scene with some pretty intense competition, but those are other stories.

I look forward to the basketball season. I love watching it (mostly college) and enjoy the opportunity to share my love of the sport with others. This week we started our annual basketball clinic for 4-8th graders and I had a blast. While the skill level varied, the enthusiasm was universal. Many students were apprehensive but we seemed to overcome our fears. I got a special kick from coaching my own daughter who was afraid of getting hit by the ball but seemed to relax by the end of the day. I can’t wait to see where we get to by the end of the clinics. We still have openings. . . . .
