What
a way to end a week. Monday’s rain has given over to some spectacular
spring weather. I love the warmth and sun. It makes me want to play
hooky. It is so tempting to head out, get the dog and go for a walk or
pump up the tires and venture on a bike ride at Rothrock. And I would,
except it would not set a good example for the students and staff to have the
Head of School duck out for the day. So here I sit, looking outside at
the brilliant blue sky, the velvet green grass and a joyful sun, knowing I will
not be able to enjoy the full measure of these gifts today. Thank goodness for
recess! Growing up I was convinced that recess was the best invention
ever and my advancing age has yet to modify that opinion. It is a
wonderful time to revel in the day and do things that advance your physical and
emotional health. It is your time to run, sit, laugh and play with
friends. For me, recess is a much-needed break in a crowded, hectic work
day. If you don’t know the joys of recess, the next bright spring day,
use some of your lunch hour to go outside and you will quickly understand.
Better yet, play a little hooky and get the full effect.
